David E. Baptiste is an American performer, known to his fans as Ronin Gray, born on January 30, 1983 and raised in the Boyle Heights area just East of Downtown Los Angeles.
THE MEANING OF THE NAME:
RONIN - [Ron’ in] Samurai with no lord or master.
GRAY - [Grey] Of a color between black and white.
INFLUENCES:
In 2nd grade, Ronin memorized and rapped Hi-C’s “I’m Not Your Puppet” to impress his classmates. It was then that he fell in love with Hip-Hop. He went on to discover the works of N.W.A., Eazy-E, Snoop Dogg, Too $hort, Dr. Dre, and even classics such as Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, and George Clinton.
RONIN NOW:
After multiple run-in's with the law from a criminal lifestyle, Ronin began looking for another way to live. Filled with optimism after his most recent release from prison, he made the choice to change his life and pursue a career in the entertainment industry through Music and Film. Immediately following his release he started acting, obtaining his SAG and AFTRA memberships. Ronin also became a validated member of SESAC as a song writer and publisher preparing the release of “The Takeover”, his 8th and most prolific album to date under Triple O Records, his own label which was released via Itunes. Currently Ronin is executive producing his newest album titled "THE RED DRAGON EP " set to release fourth quarter of 2014. Ronin has worked marketing and promotions for rapper 50 Cent and his Street King philanthropic endeavor to feed 1 billion people in Africa and help combat world hunger. Ronin also had the privilege of working for Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown, which enabled him to understand and respect the influence of the court system and the power of being a creator and owner of content distributed by a performer. These feats mark new beginnings for the enigmatic rapper who is spreading his message and brand to the world of film and music.
Since 2003 Ronin Gray / Triple O Records has sold / distributed 60,000 units independently. If Ronin’s humble beginnings are any reflection of what is to come, then there is no stopping this talent as he continues his journey in the rap game.
